Research strategy and policy have become more explicitly, and more politically driven, whether at a national or an institutional level. The plenary session that opens the conference provides three views of the directions and policy issues involved in current research strategies and their management.
Professor Ian Diamond will outline the approach of the UK's Research Councils, and how this is coupled to the broader Government science and innovation policy.
Professor Adelani Ogunrinade will provide a head of institution's view from a developing country perspective.
Dr Christine Boesz will illustrate the governance issues involved in national and international research activity.
